I am very interested in pledging Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority?
Q. Hello and Thank you to those who took the time to read and answer my question. I am currently a sophmore, and have always been interested in Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. I know that G.P.A is a major factor in pledging any sorority. My question is. during my freshman my grades were very bad(withdrew from classes due to family problems), Although I managed to bring my grades up and maintain my G.P.A, I would like to know will that affect my chances in receiving an acceptance letter to join the line?

A. Depending on your school, it's all in who you know. Is your GPA over a 2.5? Do you have community service? If not, then worry about those things first before you think about pledging a sorority in which your grades may drop even further. Remember: there is always Grad chapters!

A. Step 1 my dear interested is to find out if your campus indeed has an ACTIVE chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Just because you see members on campus, unfortunately doesn't always mean they are active so you want to be clear on that. Step 2 go to the national website www.aka1908.com and familiarize yourself with the Sorority and its' history. Research other Sororities also to make sure Alpha Kappa Alpha is for you. Step 3. Go to any events sponsored by the chapter on campus, and in the community. You will become familiar with the members and they of you, that way you are not saying Hi, I'm interested you know. Most people know by not that coming to events pretty much deems that you are interested when you come over and over… [cont.]

Q. I'm interested in pledging Alpha Kappa Alpha, what should go into a interest letter?

A. Hello BEAUTY, Here are the guidelines that I normally give out regarding a letter of interest. FYI: We no longer refer to the process as pledging, it is now called the Membership Intake Process/MIP as the sorority is a non-pledging, non-hazing entity and has strict policies against participating in any activities that are or can be associated with pledging. There are serious penalties for disregarding the policies up to and including suspension and/or expulsion from the sorority for life. Regarding the Letter of Interest: What you want is for my sorors to be impressed with you from your letter. Here are some guidelines: ***The letter should be one page in length. ***It should tell us why, specifically, you believe that you… [cont.]

Q. My aunt and sister are AKA's so i know a little.

A. Hello. I am not a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha but first of all you should definitely change your screen name. "Future AKA 1908" is misleading to the members of the organization and gives them the impression that you think that you are guaranteed membership, which none of us are. Secondly the term "pledge" or "pledging" no longer exists in the sorority and the proper term is MIP - Membership Intake Process. I would start by researching the national website for Alpha Kappa Alpha www.aka1908.com to learn more about the sorority and to see if this is the organization that you really want to pursue. In addition you should ask you aunt and sister any questions that are unanswered. May God Bless you in your endeavors. P.S. I hope you do not… [cont.]

Im interested in pledging to Alpha Kappa Alpha. I want to know how to say I think skee wee.?
Q. I know I have to be carefull and not say it if im not in it. But what's the best way to say it correctly(please don't mention any hatefull things towards this sorority) And what should I expect when pledging?
Asked by lenna - Mon May 12 19:35:28 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Dear Lenna, Please, don't worry. You should never say 'skee-wee' until you are a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha. You will be taught how to say it correctly by other members; unfortunately, I still can't say it well and I've been a member for almost 15 years! LOL!!! It isn't important whether you can skee-wee or not, what is important : What are you doing to help the community? Actually, Alpha Kappa Alpha does not pledge its initiates. All nine groups of the National Pan Hellenic Council enacted the Membership Intake Process in 1990 because some initiates were being harmed and hazed (and killed) instead of being pledged. Here is some information from our website: The process for undergraduate membership begins with Rush. The date,… [cont.]

A. Unfortunately no. You must attend a college or university that grants bachelor's degrees. If you attend a senior college, you'll have a better opportunity. Also, here is more information from the www.aka1908.org website: Undergraduate Membership Requirements: * Matriculation as a full-time student where the campus chapter is located; or matriculation as a full-time student in a school in the community where a city chapter of undergraduate status is located; * Completion of at least one successful grading period (or a defined by the university) as a full-time student at the institution where application is made; * A cumulative average of C+ and semester average of C+ immediately prior to submitting an application for… [cont.]

Wanting to pledge Alpha Kappa Alpha ,,?
Q. Hey all. I am currently a freshmen in college with a 3.0 gpa ..I HEARD that there was a new line coming out at my school soon but am not for sure. Anyway; my question is for anyone who has ever pledged anything or know someone who has. What are your suggestions? Should I attend all of their functions to show that I am serious about pledging, even if they won't have a line until my Junior year? How often do Alpha Kappa Alpha's have a line? Is it every three semesters? How can you tell if they like you or not? Is it good if they stop you on campus and ask you questions? And if I (sometimes) hang with two girls that the AKA's don't like (i know for sure; one of them talks to one of the AKA's ex boyfriends) should i stop hanging around… [cont.]

A. First of all, congrats on maintaining a 3.0 GPA. Second, "pledging" was banned in all the D9 organizations. Third, Yes! You should attend all the events so that my Sisters can get to know you and vice versa. Fourth, keep your ears and eyes open, we do Not spoon feed potential members. Do your research!! AKA isn't for everyone. It is a LIFE-long commitment, not just another organization to add to your resume. Be sure that you are active in your community. Lastly, my Sisters come from all backgrounds, and in all shapes and sizes. There is no such thing as a "stereotypical" member of my organization. Please don't feed into the myths. If you want to talk more privately feel free to email me...

Q. I want to know how I would pledge in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Does anyone know exactly how or have any tips?
Asked by Simply Luvlee - Fri Jul 20 23:44:08 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You have to be in school fulltime and have a qualifying GPA. You should contact the chapter at your school and request information. If you do not have a chapter at your school then you're out of luck. You will have to wait until graduation and join an AKA grad chapter.

A. A large part of being a capable and functional member of any sorority or fraternity is confidence. We seek individuals who would be an asset to the organization, the community and ultimately, the world. We want impressive ambassadors to the public, so that when others see any member at any given time, they will admire and want to be a part of us. Before you initiate this process, however, do not be afraid to be unapologetically yourself! Take the initiative to discover who YOU are and what you are all about before you attempt to join a group. You will be a better person for it and the sorority would be too, if you are accepted. Don't let acceptance into a group make or break your importance in this world. Nothing is worse than a… [cont.]

I want to pledge Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority but my gpa fell due to failing a class?
Q. I failed my calc class this semester and it lowered my gpa to below a 2.5 I'm retaking it again this summer so it will be removed before I return to campus for the fall. Will I be allowed to pledge since I'm retaking the class? I don't want to go through everything and find out this isn't allowed.

A. I am not sure what you mean by "go through everything." But please understand that HAZING will not be tolerated and membership will not be extended to anyone who participates in such activities. The term plegding in Alpha Kappa Alpha is to no longer be used. So the question is: Will you be able to participate in the membership intale process (MIP)? The first leg of MIP is rush and you will be able to attend rush. You will later find our from your prospective chapter if you have been selected for membership or not. FYI: College is not a walk in the park (at least not for most people), so things happen and you failing Cal is unfortunate, but it is a learning experience. Retake the class and continue to do well in school. As for… [cont.]

A. Don't pay attention to the research-if you've gone through rush and you liked the girls in the house and also felt like it is a place that you will be happy in for the next few years, then join. Regardless of who you ask there will always be people that speak badly of the greek system as long as you think you can be happy there it doesn't matter.

Joining Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated?
Q. If i say anything in this I apologize in advance. I'm still learning so excuse my ignorance. I honestly didn't take high school so seriously due to drama at home with family. However, when i got accepted into college I was happy. This was my chance to start over and actually improve. First semester I made deans list with a 3.8 GPA, and then second semester my father died which completely made me lose focus and i left school with a 3.2 GPA. Not exactly what a had anticipated. I'm determined however to make up for that sophmore year. I've been interested in joining a sorority, and I think out of all Alpha Kappa Alpha fits me best. A. You're on the right track. Keep your grades well about a 3.0, continue to do community service and attend the functions the chapter has. Also, get involved in organizations on your campus like the student union board, NAACP, SGA or clubs in your major. It would help if you held a position in any club.

A. Go to all the rush events they have and make a point to get to know the brothers of the fraternity outside of the rush events. Make a point to let them know how interested you are in their fraternity, but don't over do it. If you know any alumni of the fraternity, get them to write you a letter of recommendation!

A. It would depend on the chapter. I would talk with the campus Greek advisor since they are familiar with any questionable instances regarding any of the fraternities. You could also talk to the fraternity's president and rush chairman to ask if you would be met with any disrespect.

A. Yeah, as far as I know. I am totally unsure, but you should check out their website to be sure or ask a Kappa. But I think you could find a school close to yours that does have a chapter and I think you can cross membership, or its called something like that it (no disrespect to you Kappas, I just don't know your terminology). But I also think you would have to find a graduate chapter that would sponsor you. Like I said, I am not all the way sure, but I think I heard something like that before.

A. GPA is very important, and you must have at least a C+ average. We cannot contradict the basis on which we were founded: to maintain high . . . scholastic standards. Here is some information from our web site: Graduate Membership Requirements: * Completion of at least a baccalaureate degree with a cumulative average of at least C+ or a graduate degree from an accredited senior college/university; I hope the best for you . . .
