How many community service hours did you have when seeking membership into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.?
Q. What would be the minimum amount of hours you would accept from a prospective?
Asked by tammi j - Thu Jul 26 17:16:18 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If you're seeking to do minimums, you need to look for another organization. Please refer to the website and current members that you already know and trust. That's the best way to learn the answers to this and surely many other questions that you have. Above all, be discreet if you're serious.

A. The graduate adviser should return your email. She is the main point of contact for the undergraduate chapter. If you don't hear from her soon, try again. What are you trying to find out in the brochure?

Q. I have long been interested in Alpha Kappa Alpha however after having a baby in my jr year I took time off. Now that I am back I want to try to become a member of the organization. Is it possible to become a member while also being a full-time mother? Also note I will be a transfer into the school I intend to seek membership at.

A. Yes, you can if you feel its okay for you and you won't be steesing out. I am not a member, but I have many family members and friends whom are and quite a few joined as undergrads and had children at the time and afterwards. But what I will tell you is that my fam and friends at times had to make choices, and sometimes it was okay for them to bring their child with them to an event, and some times I noticed that they would just elect to not fully participate in an event due to them having a child. I must say that they all are strong women and did what they had to do, and some told me that they felt the members respected them more for showing dedication by still bringing their child (of course to age appropiate events) and showing up. … [cont.]

Q. seeking guidance/ advice on pledging grad chapter of AKA I know 4 members.
Asked by Paula S - Sun Mar 30 16:17:47 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Alpha Kappa Alpha no longer pledge. Aspirants go through the MIP. It won't be easy getting into the grad chapter since it's by invitation only. If you know 4 members, then they will be able to tell you when the grad chapter has community service open to the public. Just make sure you continue to do community service.

Are there "alpha and beta females" among girls just like there are with men?
Q. In every group of guys, there is one guy who is more charismatic, confident, and successful - he is the alpha and the other guys are usually the betas. They will laugh at his jokes, rely on him to decide their plans for the evening, and even seek his approval in their decisions in life and dating. It's strange, but it happens... Does this happen with women?

Presumably none of these people know what is held in their blind trusts, and surely the Clintons' trustee will buy other stocks to replace XOM and BP.

However, I am a little hesitant because I am almost 30 have such a full plate right now. A. I'm with MT. You've got a lot more important things to worry about than some sorority. I know it's been a goal, but you've made other choices that negate the importance of being in a sorority. After you get your degree, focus on your family.

Joining an Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Graduate Chapter?
Q. Greetings to all, I've always had a strong passion for being a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and I'm currently considering further displaying my interest and seeking membership in a graduate chapter. Here's my concern, I initially sought membership as a junior while in undergrad and unfortunately I was not extended an invitation to join due to the fact, I believe, because I didn't get alone with a few of the girls. For the most part I bonded with many and I've always been very respectful but I will not allow ANYONE to disrepect me, my family, or my friends, while I'm standing there. There was an incident with a few of the girls and myself due to the fact that one of them disrespected my sister by being rude and pushing her and… [cont.]

A. I would not let anyone deter you from obtaining your goal. The key is to be the type of individual the graduate chapter would like to extend an invitation to-that is someone doing community service, attending the grad chapter's programs ,and getting to know some of the graduate members. There may be someone you know through friends or family members, church members, etc. that may know one of the graduate members who may be willing to put in a good word for you. Sorry, that your experience as an undergrad was disheartening. A current member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.

Sources on female species being more prone to infidelity?
Q. I'm looking for a topic to do my 10-20 page research paper on for school. I remember seeing something on t.v. a few years ago that said the female human species is actually more genetically prone to infidelity than males. I thought this was interesting since most people think it's actually males. You know how in other animal species there's one or the other that has been scientifically proven to be so? I think it said that in most animal species it's actually the female, and the same with humans. I want to find sources (if any) to support this. I have other topics in mind, but I'm narrowing it down. I think it would make an interesting paper if so. If it's true, my argument would be that along the way, over centuries men and society… [cont.]
Asked by SomethingClever - Mon Aug 4 10:42:51 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Almost no species form bonded pairs against which there could be an infidelity. Humans are not one of these, and monogamy and fidelity are convenient and happy fictions. There are only four species on the Earth that do bond, and they include the beaver, the painted shrimp, and the gibbon. These never, ever, in any observed behaviors, exhibit any infidelity once the pair has joined. Among hedogogically organized primates (of which we are one type, along with monkeys and gorillas), the typical behavior is for one alpha male to attract most of the females. When they are in estrus, they behave in a way that we humans would consider to be "slutty", to use your words (humans no longer experience estrus). They are largely ignored when not in… [cont.]

Has anyone else seen anything like this new trading website?
Q. I've found this website from an author on Seeking Alpha, Dr. Kris from MIT - she has developed a really interesting item called the SMC analyzer on her website stockmarketcookbook.com.. .it puts together Modern Portfolio Theory and several market timing oscillators - seems she prefers the CCI - in regard to properly allocating assets. I've been involved in markets for many years and fund managers have never shown that they can effectively time the markets. Maybe they should take a look at it, since this seems to be hard math and there is no 'human' element to louse the results...Has anyone else ever seen MPT combined with effective timing oscillators?

Your NEO (BHO) is speeding things up!?
Q. Prediction one. The twenty-five-year equities bubble pops in 2009. U.S. and foreign equities markets will stop treading water and realign with economic reality. Stock prices will cease to reflect the greater fool mentality and will return to being a function of dividend yields, which have long been miserable. The S&P 500 will sink below 500. In a bid to stem the panic, the government will enforce periodic stock market holidays , and will vastly expand the scope of its short-selling prohibitions eventually banning short-selling altogether. Prediction two. With public pension systems and tens of millions of 401k holders virtually wiped out and with the Baby Boomers retiring en masse there will be tremendous pressure on the government to… [cont.]

Alpha Kappa Alpha Event Advice NEEDED!?
Q. Hello. I want to ask any members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. this question. I will be attending an event soon sponsored by the Graduate chapter I am looking to seek membership within. My question is, I do not know any of the members and I am extremely nervous about attending this event alone. I tend to be a shy person so I am not sure what to do or how to interact with other's at the party. I know this event matters a lot because two Members know of my interest and I am sure they are looking for me to be there. I just don't know how to mingle with the rest of the chapter Members. Would anyone out there help me with some words of encouragement or advice as to how to carry myself alone at this event? Should I approach other women?… [cont.]

It is a big decision and one that you will have a lifetime to enjoy should membership be offered to you! Regarding your question: In attending the event that my sorors are having the very first peice of advice that I have for you is to be confident! I know that in some ways that is easier said than done, but there are some ways for you to work on it! First look in the mirror and point out all of the wonderful things about you and how they benefit you and how they can be used to benefit others. Thenget with a friend and have them write a letter of encouragement to you and seal it. Open it as you are on your way to the… [cont.]

Q. Can you believe that?? You talk about balls the size of Alpha Centauri. He makes Marion Barry look humble.

A. Thain suggests that: Since taking over as Merrill's chairman and chief executive officer last December, He cleaned up messes inherited from his predecessor, and the takeover agreement in September averted a possible collapse of the 94-year-old company. His decision to sell Merrill likely salvaged billions of dollars for shareholders and saved a huge number of jobs at the firm, even though thousands of positions will be eliminated following the takeover. On the other hand: Winthrop Smith Jr. -- the 59-year-old son of one of the founding partners of Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith -- admonished Merrill's board and the company's previous chiefs. Which average counts...new gpa requirement for alpha kappa alpha?

Which average do they want...my transcript from my current school or both? Since I am a transfer, I have 3; a transcript with my cuml average from my current school calculated only. A transcript from my previous college and an over all one that the school said is used only to determine my graduation rank and honor. Also, I've came across a few answers on here stating that the sorority has increased it's national required gpa from a 2.5 to a 3.0. A. I know what you are going through. I am in the same position as you are right know. For your transcript from what I know they would look at the school that you are attending as of right know. And that is good. Keep your grades up. But also keep in mind they look at your cumulative gpa as well. For your second question the national gpa is a 3.0. The gpa has recently been changed and would not take effect until the fall of 2009. Most people do not know that information. Also you may want to check your regions newsletter. It gives you some information as to what is going on. Just take a deep breathe I am sure everything will be fine. Hopes this helps. Good Luck
